Septic Tanks

Oh yes, I'm thinking of Septic Tanks this evening after reading in the paper recently that residents in Seminole county living in the Wekiva basin may soon be required to pay $3,000 or more to upgrade their septics tanks. I somehow wonder what a modern septic tank is like considering all they are now is a tank in the ground that holds all the crap you flush down your toilet.

Seems hard to believe that in the 21st Century, we still dump our waste into a hole in the ground, and allow it to percolate down through the dirt towards are drinking supply. If the county wants to do something to save the Wekiva River basin, they need to run some sewer pipe out there and let the kindly folks living out there connect up to the big city sewer system. I think it's time for seminole residents to grow up and take care of their waste. I mean even dogwalkers are learning to scoop up the poop these days.

Ever wonder how they manage to clean up the waste water? I mean, people pour all kinds of stuff down their sinks and into their toilets. I mean pills, and cleaning solutions, oils, lotions, nail polish remover, paint. How can they test for stuff they don't even know has been put in the water, and how do they get it out? That's why I think we need experts to take care of our raw sewage, not just dump it into the ground and hope the dirt soaks it up before it gets to the aquifer.
